Indore: In a tragic incident, five persons were swept away in the waterfall at Patalpani on Sunday after the water level suddenly rose due to flood caused by the recent spell of rainfall.

The incident occurred around 1:15pm. Two of them were saved and body of one was fished out. Two persons were still missing.

Nanuram (25) of Badnawar and Anishq (18) of Harda were some how saved by the people. But the body of Chavi (22), daughter of Purshottam Dhoot and a resident of Aggrawal Nagar was fished out by fire tenders of Mhow and Indore.

The body of Chandrashekhar Rathi (55) and Mudita Rathi (22), both residents of Harda were still missing. Both Mudita and Chavi were pursuing MBA at a college in Indore. Bherulal Chowdhary, an eyewitness to the incident, said more than 50 persons were sitting near the waterfall when the water suddenly gushed into the stream, forcing them to scamper towards safety.

Heavy rains were reported in the catchment area of the upstream, thus flash flooding occurred before authorities had time to inform the tourists. The villagers warned the people sitting in the risky areas and asked them to move away from water.

While many of them ran for the safety of their lives, an aged man along with two boys and two girls didn't move out. They were washed away in the tide. The atmosphere suddenly turned gloomy at the spot. The villagers gathered at the spot in large numbers immediately. Police personnel and fire tenders were carrying out the rescue operations till the filing of the news.
