Total shutdown in Telangana today

The Telangana region is bracing for another day of total shutdown as the Joint Action Committee (JAC) spearheading the campaign for a separate state has called for a bandh on today.

On Sunday, buses had returned to roads in the Telangana region after employees of the State Road Transport Corporation withdrew their strike "temporarily".

Also today, the pro-Telangana teachers who have been participating in the general strike in support of the separate statehood demand are expected to resume their duties. They however made it clear that they would also continue to campaign for the cause.

The TJAC bandh has been called today to protest the arrest of its leaders and protesters during the rail roko agitation that began on Saturday. The 72-hour rail roko has meanwhile been cut short and trains will ply today.

The JAC led ongoing indefinite general strike entered into 35th day today.
