Today : Bank unions to strike

Banking operations across the country are expected to be affected on today due to a day-long strike by employees protesting against disinvestment by the government in public sector banks.

"Over 10 lakh employees will participate in the strike. All banking operations across the country will be impacted," Vishwas Utagi of the All India Bank Employees Association said. He said crucial banking arms such as clearing houses, forex departments, call money markets and the Reserve Bank offices too would remain closed.

Conciliatory talks between the United Forum of Bank Unions and the banks management failed on Wednesday. The issues include privatisation of banking and outsourcing of bank jobs.
