Oscar-Winner Hilary Swank Hit By 'Shrapnel'

Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank is about to hop into the thick of comic book movie madness, but she is not avoiding the flying shrapnelshe's running straight towards it.

Variety reports that Swank, who won Academy Awards for her devastating performances in "Boys Don't Cry" and "Million Dollar Baby," is headed to Venus in an adaptation of Radical Publishing's sci-fi graphic novel series "Shrapnel."

Based on a trilogy penned by Nick Sagan and M. Zachary Sherman, "Shrapnel" centers on a former Solar Alliance Marine who leads a revolution on Venus in the far future. Toby Wagstaff has been hired by Radical Pictures to adapt the project.

“Hilary came to Radical excited to find a project with a strong female protagonist that could show off her abilities to do action films," Radical president Barry Levine says of the film. "With Hilary being an actors actor, 'Shrapnel' will give a whole new definition to that type of role.”

“I am a fan of the work that Barry Levine and Radical Pictures are doing in the comic and action arena," adds Swank. "'Shrapnel' and specifically the character of Sam offer me the opportunity to dive into an exciting character with many layers and depth that are rarely found in this genre.”

I'm a big fan of Swank's, and though I'm not familiar with the project, it sounds like an awesome story for the actress to dive into. We'll keep you posted with more details as we get them.
