Khawaja granted Indian visa for Champions League

Australia batsman Usman Khawaja has been granted a visa for India ahead of next month's Champions League Twenty20 tournament after the Pakistan-born player had earlier complained of a delay.

A statement from the consulate said, Mr Khawaja’s visa application was originally submitted with incomplete and incorrect documentation. This has since been rectified by Mr Khawaja, and his visa application is now under process.”

Khawaja, the first Muslim to play for Australia, was granted his Indian visa Wednesday, the New South Wales Cricket Board said in a statement.

On Tuesday, Khawaja complained on Twitter that India's visa department was refusing him entry.

Cricket Australia confirmed the delay, but said the problem was a bureaucratic one and nothing to do with his country of birth or religion.

Cricket New South Wales, the team for which Khawaja would compete in CL T20, completed the process following intervention from Indian-born chairman Dr Harry Harinath.
